Early morning, the journey commences to Agra by a beautiful drive from Delhi, soaking one in Mughal grandeur and history. You start through a drive of around 3-4 hours past beautiful North Indian landscapes, glimpses of countryside green, rural life, and busy towns.
Ordered to be built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his lovely wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is based on splendid architectural beauty, delicate carving in marble, and symmetrical gardens. As you enter through the main gate, slowly and gradually the magnificence of this architectural wonder known as the Taj Mahal dawns upon you the closer you go towards it, and this becomes a surreal kind of an experience, really making your heart swell with joy.
This is where the aesthetic coherence of Taj Mahal is held, along with its sereneness and persnickety detailing, from the attractiveness of the floral patterns of marble to the calligraphy inscriptions from the Quran present on its walls. The central mausoleum, with the cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, is embellished with true art, in laid and carved with semi-precious stones that reflect light wonderfully. The mausoleum is set amidst meticulously manicured gardens, reflecting pools, and symmetry-inducing pathways to reimagine ethereal beauty and symmetry.
Having captured the state of timeless beauty by photography to further showcase the true glory of the Taj Mahal, head to Agra Fort, yet another of the World Heritage Sites of UNESCO and formerly deemed to be the principal residence of the Mughal Emperors. The red sandstone envelops the major structure of Agra Fort, which is a massive locus of palaces, mosques, and audience halls that attest to the grandiosity of the Mughal rulers' ostentatious lifestyle. As you walk along its massive gates and courtyards from within the fort, one can observe the fine carvings, marble inlays, and panoramic view of the Yamuna River and the Taj Mahal from various points.
